Haphazard Blend
Rich cup! Syrupy body. Wine-like taste, tangy and tart. Blackberry aromas.
12oz bag, $11.59
–The name comes from how I stumbled upon the blend. I periodically toss a handful of this bean and a handful of that bean into the grinder, rather “haphazardly” for kicks. That’s exactly how I came across this blend. It’s a blend I would have not otherwise thought of, but am very glad I did. I’ve been sipping on this for the past couple of weeks at the shop and decided it was too good not to put on the website and make available for everyone.

–More on our other more recent addition:
Burundi Kayanza
Burundi is one of the smallest countries in Africa, bordered by Rwanda, Tanzania, and partially by the Democratic Republic of Congo. Burundi is one of the 5 poorest countries in the world! 80% of Burundi’s population lives in poverty. The nations largest source of revenue is COFFEE, making up 93% of their exports.
Think gourmet, world-class coffee doesn’t tell a story? Think again. Think gourmet, world-class coffees don’t demand a better, higher price? I think this coffee is too cheap.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burundi

You answer the door before people knock.
Juan Valdez named his donkey after you.
You ski uphill.
You grind your coffee beans in your mouth.
You haven’t blinked since the last lunar eclipse.
You lick your coffeepot clean.
You’re the employee of the month at the local coffeehouse and you don’t
even work there.
Your eyes stay open when you sneeze.
You chew on other people’s fingernails.
Your T-shirt says, “Decaffeinated coffee is the devil’s blend.”
You can type sixty words per minute … with your feet.
You can jump-start your car without cables.
Cocaine is a downer.
You don’t need a hammer to pound nails.
Your only source of nutrition comes from “Sweet &Low.”
You don’t sweat, you percolate.
You buy Half &Half by the barrel.
You’ve worn out the handle on your favorite mug, twice.
You go to AA meetings just for the free coffee.
You walk twenty miles on your treadmill before you realize it’s not
plugged in.
You forget to unwrap candy bars before eating them.
Charles Manson thinks you need to calm down.
You’ve built a miniature city out of little plastic stirrers.
People get dizzy just watching you.
You’ve worn the finish off your coffee table.
The Taster’s Choice couple wants to adopt you.
Starbucks owns the mortgage on your house.
Your taste buds are so numb you could drink your lava lamp.
Instant coffee takes too long.
When someone says. “How are you?”, you say, “Good to the last drop.”
You want to be cremated just so you can spend the rest of eternity in a
coffee can.
Your birthday is a national holiday in Brazil.
You’re offended when people use the word “brew” to mean beer.
You have a picture of your coffee mug on your coffee mug.
You can thread a sewing machine, while it’s running.
You can outlast the Energizer bunny.
You short out motion detectors.
You don’t even wait for the water to boil anymore.
Your nervous twitch registers on the Richter scale.
You think being called a “drip” is a compliment.
You don’t tan, you roast.
You can’t even remember your second cup.
You help your dog chase its tail.

I meet a lot of people who have and use K-Cup machines, they seem to love the convenience but more and more are complaining of the cost to purchase the pods.
I’ve been telling folks about refillable, reusable K-Cups that I’ve seen. THEN I’ve been hearing about frustrations with THOSE, they overflow, they’re not easy to clean, etc etc etc
Someone directed my attention to this one: The EkoBrew.
It seems to be getting a lot of praise for price, convenience, ease of use, and easy to clean.
So, just thought I’d pass it along. There’s several nice reviews out there, complete with videos/demos.

There is still a steady flow of buzz, worry, suggestions, speculation, and occasional pandemonium in the specialty coffee industry associated with the price hikes, supply shortages (or speculation of shortages), and where the specialty industry is heading.

I’ve read a couple of great blogs this morning and inspired to write a quick (hopefully) note about what I have seen, what we’ve done, and where we see ourselves going. I’m obviously, by no means an expert. I’m merely a juvenile in this industry.

When I first launched my website my average coffee price per 12oz bag was $9.99 with a few going as high as $10.99.

My average price now is $10.99 to $12.00.

When JCCR (me) launched the website in Jan ’10 the industry literature was saying the buying patterns had shifted. People were still enjoying specialty grade coffees but were choosing to prepare it at home rather than paying upwards of three to five bucks for a Mocha, Latte, etc at the local shop. That was good news for me. I’ve noticed another shift in the past year. People are still enjoying specialty coffee, some are choosing to view it as a delicacy, something to ‘treat themselves’ to from time to time. Which is fine…sometimes I want a fillet mignon, sometimes a hamburger. These buyers will ‘get by’ with lower quality coffees for a while, then order once a month or every other month. Then there are the die hards such as myself who won’t drink anything else.

I’ve also noticed more buyers taking advantage of bulk order deals than before. We’ve had a great response to our free shipping when you order three bags or more. This is especially true on our wholesale side, more and more are buying up larger quantities to save on the per pound price where as before…I suppose maybe there wasn’t as much motivation before?

My cost of green, unroasted beans rise and fall (haven’t seen it fall yet lol!) based on crop yields, which have variables such as: rainfall, growers hoarding stock, government involvement, and even civil unrest. The other biggest variable is consumer demand, which we’ve talked about.

So, we plan to continue to diversify while holding true to our vision and standards of excellence to promote our brand. We’re going to make a few ‘inside’ changes to JCCR and get more aggressive with grocery stores this year.

We also plan to continue to find cost effective alternatives for YOU, our buyers without compromising quality or service such as: blends, shipping specials, and bulk order specials.

My recommendations for you:

-Join our email list. Not only will you be notified of new products and specials but there are also Email List Exclusive specials that you will only know about if you are on the list.

http://www.jitterycoffeecuproasters.com/2001.html

-Become a “Fan” of our facebook page to find out what we’re doing day to day to keep our customers and buyers happy and caffeinated.

When I was in high school, I participated in a training camp every year for track and cross country. There’s a point to this, I promise. It was in Florida and one of the traditions was a relay race through an orange grove. But instead of using your typical baton we’d use an orange, plucked fresh off one of the trees…made it a little more awkward and fun.
Afterward the owner/farmer would open up his gift shop just for us. I’m sure he looked forward to it every year, knowing 3 or 4 vans full of kids would be coming to clean out his inventory. I bought a half gallon of FRESH orange juice every time.
I had never had anything quite like it before or since.
THAT is what immediately comes to mind when I sip on our new Wahana Sunrise Espresso. I told you there was a point to the aforementioned story! Most of you are familiar with our Sumatra Wahana. As a drip coffee it’s an intense strawberry and chocolate bombardment. When pulled as an espresso with a few other beans blended in, (those are a secret) I get an intense citrus/orange peel flavor.
I’m really excited about this espresso. Introducing this blend brings me closer to my original vision as a roastery: A roastery based on espresso.
I’ve got another espresso blend I’m working on now and planned to roll out these two together but feel the Wahana Sunrise deserved a discussion all its own.
So, let me introduce you to Wahana Sunrise Espresso! World, meet Wahana Sunrise. Wahana Sunrise, world.

Enjoy!
Michael
